Innovations in the I-64 Innovation Corridor - Medicines for All

The “Medicines for All” (M4All) Institute at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond is creating new advanced manufacturing technologies to produce drugs for critical and short-supply medications, thereby reducing U.S. dependency on overseas drug manufacturers.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is providing a $354 million, four-year contract to accelerate this work. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is also an investor, realizing the world-wide potential application for this technology.

This work is creating the opportunity to build a global cluster of advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing and R&D along the I-64 Innovation Corridor, linking 757 companies like LifeNet Health, ReAlta Life Sciences, and ivWatch and RVA companies like Civica Rx, Phlow Corporation, and Grenova.

To learn more about the enormous potential of this new cluster, read VCU College of Engineering’s final report to GO Virginia - “Building a global cluster of advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing and R&D in Richmond/Petersburg.” Bob Holsworth, DecideSmart’s Managing Partner and RVA757 Connects’ Executive Committee member, authored this report.
